I grew up in Geelong, Victoria and attended an all-girls school. The career paths presented to me were healthcare, teaching or law.

I moved to Melbourne to study Physio, graduated and worked for a year before deciding to head overseas. I worked at a summer camp in the uS, then spent a few months travelling. I met people from around the world with jobs I never knew existed and got inspired by Chicago’s architecture.

I returned knowing I wanted a change and sought out a career’s advisor who encouraged me to study Project Management. I went to uni at night while working in healthcare during the day before transitioning to a job in construction in 2019. I have now been in the industry for 5 years and have never looked back.

I left “mainstream school” at the end of Year 10 because I knew I wasn’t going to do well in my exams and get a good ATAR. I could never sit still or concentrate very well and was easily distracted. I moved to a sports school for Netball, to complete my Year 11 and 12 in VCAL and completed my VET Certificates 2 & 3 in Sports and Recreation.

After I finished school I completed a Diploma of Sports Development. During my time doing the Diploma I realised that I did not want a career in the Sports Industry anymore. I always had an interest in carpentry and building things with my dad as a kid in the garage, so I thought about doing a carpentry apprenticeship. I started off by doing a Pre Apprenticeship to see if it was something I wanted to do. I loved it and realised I wanted to be in the Construction Industry.

After completing my Pre Apprenticeship I had an interview with Hutchinson Builders. I then started my Carpentry Apprenticeship with them and have loved my job ever since.

I grew up in NSW riding horses and playing hockey. I moved to QLD when I was in grade 6 and started going to work with my dad during the school holidays.

I studied woodwork & engineering at school as electives. In grade 12 I was offered a position at Gold Coast School of Construction to complete a introduction to construction course. At the end of the program I was offered a full time Carpentry apprenticeship with Hutchinson Builders.

I graduated year 12 and commenced full time with my apprenticeship which saw me travel to Brisbane, Gold Coast even out west as far as Mount Isa and across to Port Headland WA.

As a result of a workplace accident, I was tasked to assist the HSE Manager, whilst completing my apprenticeship. Assisting the HSE Manager ignited my interest in Workplace, Heath Safety and Environment and has led me to my current position.

I am now a Team HSE Manager for one of Hutchies teams and manage HSE for projects across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
