When I was little, I did not know what I wanted to become, my parents made me study sciences to make sure I had options. I loved animals and wanted to become a zoologist, however whilst studying chemical engineering I witnessed the explosion of a Chemical Factory in the South-West of France, and decided to complete a Master of Engineering in Safety and Environmental Risk Prevention.

I started working as a Safety Engineer in the Energy industry in Europe. I then moved to a fly-in fly out role in New Caledonia during the construction and commissioning of a nickel process plant.

When I relocated to Australia, I decided to go back to university to study a Master of Engineering whilst I was getting my French Engineering degree recognised by Engineers Australia. I went on to become Chartered and Registered Professional Engineer, and now I am also Fellow member of EA.

I have had many fulfilling engineering roles in Australia, from process engineer, commissioning engineer, senior operations engineer to engineering manager, and now process safety manager. I have so often been the only woman in my work environment, and I am very passionate about making sure that girls and women are provided with equal opportunities to thrive in their career and choose the role they aspire to.

I grew up in Toowoomba and had planned to be a pilot in the RAAF. However I didn’t make the cut so I studied engineering instead as had always enjoyed maths and problem solving. Fast forward, and I have 12+ years’ experience in the energy industry – and have loved it!

I’ve spent most of my career in FIFO roles, either supporting drilling operations or on construction projects. In these roles I’d spend up to 4 weeks at the work location, then go home and have up to 4 weeks off! I travelled A LOT working at remote locations across Australia, New Zealand, UAE and PNG. Think deserts, jungles, rigs in the middle of the ocean!

For the past two years I’ve had ‘office’ jobs in power generation and, now, renewable hydrogen projects. I also co-chair our Origin gender equity network and am an Origin Energy Foundation Ambassador. Being able to advocate for the things I’m passionate about as part of my job makes it 10x better!

I am currently a site engineer for water and gas facilities located out in regional Queensland.

I didn’t think this was where I would be when I finished year 12 at Bundaberg State High School in 2011. I started university studying a Bachelor of Arts degree, completing political science and communication courses. Somewhere along the way, I realised that my time and skills were better suited to engineering. I had a lot of catching up to do when I changed focus and my degree selection to engineering, but it was well worth it as I knew this was where my passion lies.
