I saved all my money in my gap year which funded a working holiday to Canada for the following 12 months. When I returned, I enrolled into a CERT IV in Veterinary Nursing which is a two-year job-based certificate which I completed in 2018. In between completing this course, I worked at two different vet clinics and worked rurally on a 400,000-acre station.

I then wanted to study to get a trade and move into a resource industry. There just happened to be apprenticeships advertised in my local area (Dalby). I started a CERT III in engineering (Fitting) in 2019 and completed it in 2022. I moved into a fulltime tradesperson role in 2022 and haven’t looked back.

In 2017 along came my beautiful daughter Amelia. Life as I knew it had just become a whole lot busier, but I am now even more determined to succeed. Little did I know that in just 12 months’ time I would be kick starting the beginning of my career.

Now as an Apprentice I look back at what I have achieved, how far I have come and can’t wait to help other girls on their own pathway to success.

I was pretty confused about what to do after leaving school and my university application forms in 1995 were for Engineering, Architecture, Law, Commerce and Arts! I instead joined the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in Canberra to train to be an army officer. I stayed 2 years before deciding it wasn’t for me and returned to Brisbane to complete university. I joined the accounting firm PriceWaterhouse Coopers in Brisbane as a graduate. After 1 year I moved to a new job as an internal auditor with a big company. This was great fun as I travelled around Australia with work. I became a qualified accountant and auditor and then left Australia in 2005 to move to London, UK. 

I stayed in the UK for almost 6 years and then returned home to Brisbane where I joined QGC. I came home to Australia with my Scottish boyfriend and we are now married with two children! I love being able to use my brain at work but still be a devoted Mum.

When the time came to apply for university – I had no real idea what I wanted to do, just that it was important for me to continue my education. After six months studying a degree in journalism, I made a complete right-turn and transferred to a Bachelor of Science, and after a year, decided to specialise in Geology – I had found my niche! 

Following university, I joined QGC as a geologist and completed their graduate program. I then worked as a geologist with QGC for the next 6 years until I applied for a role in the company completely outside my comfort zone. I led our community engagement team for 18 months and learned a lot about our business and myself. I recently moved back into our technical department, leading our Survey Operations Team.

Growing up, I experienced life in multiple countries; India, South Korea and finally Australia, where my parents settled when I was a young girl.

Passionate about a whole range of worldly topics and subjects, I graduated as an Electrical and Computer Systems Engineer from Monash University in Melbourne, and moved to Brisbane to work for Shell in my first full-time job in 2020.

Currently I work as a Project Engineer at Shell QGC’s Midstream LNG plant on Curtis Island and I particularly enjoy the daily ferry commute to/from the island.

It is my belief that each person contains within them an unlimited tank of wisdom, courage and compassion, and encourages each person to tap into their potential to flourish in their life and contribute to humanity.
