About me

I am a Data Scientist in the Customer and Digital Group at the Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy, and I love creating stories with data to help people make better decisions.

Born and raised in Cairns QLD, I was an avid dancer and with that, a huge competitor. I would compete with myself every-day, to be better than I was the day before. Ultimately, this motivation led me to finish school with grades that let me into almost any university course. But with choices, comes uncertainty.

After chopping and changing majors several times throughout my degree, the many happy accidents I had along the way landed me in a data analysis role in the Queensland Government Digital & ICT Graduate Program. This is my third year working in the team and in that time, I have successfully landed higher, permanent positions.

A Data Scientist is someone who works to make sense out of data to better understand the world around us.

As it is, companies produce an in-consumable amount of data, so a data scientist is tasked with understanding and relaying that information to others.

Think of it as a language interpreter. An interpreter sits between two people, and relays information between them in a way they can understand. A data scientist sits between data and people, trying to relay whatever information is in the data in a way that people can understand. There are many types of data scientists, ranging from very technical to more generalist roles.
